Visit to ISRO Ahmedabad – Lothal – Statue of Unity

W.H. Smith Memorial School participated in an educational tour organised by OISCA International, in collaboration with the travel partner Saiyu Travels, to Ahmedabad and nearby destinations of historical, scientific, and national importance from 1st December to 5th December. The tour included 25 students (classes 8 to 12) accompanied by 4 teachers
( Mrs.Rakhi Verma, Mrs. Sandhya Kapoor, Mr. Manish Raj and Mr. Chandan Seth) and was designed to provide experiential learning beyond the classroom while promoting cultural awareness, scientific curiosity, and national pride.
1ST DECEMBER: ARRIVAL AND AHMEDABAD CITY TOUR
The group arrived safely in Ahmedabad on 1st December and checked into the hotel.
After a brief rest, the tour commenced with a visit to the Sabarmati Riverfront, where students observed modern urban development along the river and enjoyed the peaceful surroundings. This was followed by a visit to the Sabarmati Ashram, which offered valuable insight into the life and ideals of Mahatma Gandhi and India’s freedom struggle. In the evening, the group visited Atal Bridge where students relaxed and enjoyed the recreational atmosphere. The day concluded with an overnight stay in Ahmedabad.
2ND DECEMBER: EXCURSION TO LOTHAL, AMUL FACTORY AND VISHALA
On the second day, the group proceeded on an educational excursion to Lothal, an important site of the Harappan Civilization.
Students learned about ancient town planning, drainage systems, dockyard facilities, and trade practices, enabling them to connect textbook knowledge with real archaeological evidence. Later, the group visited the Amul Factory, where students were introduced to milk processing, quality control, and the cooperative movement, making the visit both informative and inspiring.
The group also visited Vishalla is a unique and popular cultural-themed restaurant and heritage spot known for its authentic Gujarati village-style experience for dinner hosted by Principal Dr. Anita Pauline Dey and Manager Mr. Pradip Kumar Dey of W. H. Smith Memorial School. The mud huts, dim lantern lights, and folk music created a warm and cultural atmosphere.
The group enjoyed traditional Gujarati thali and vegetarian dishes, often served in the old style on leaf plates, and explored the Vechaar Utensils Museum showcasing a vast collection of traditional cookware and artifacts. The place combines food, culture and heritage into one immersive experience. The visit was not just about food, but also about learning and experiencing our rich heritage.
The group returned to Ahmedabad for an overnight stay.
3RD DECEMBER: SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY EXPLORATION
The third day focused on science and innovation.
The students visited the
ISRO Space Application Centre
, gaining insight into satellite technology and its applications in daily life.
This visit greatly enhanced their interest in science and technology. Later, the group visited Science City, with special emphasis on the Aquatic World, where students observed diverse marine life and learned about aquatic ecosystems, biodiversity, and conservation.
The interactive exhibits made learning enjoyable and engaging. Overnight stay was in Ahmedabad.
4TH DECEMBER: STATUE OF UNITY TOUR TO VADODRA
On the fourth day, while travelling to Statue of Unity, the group visited Kankaria Lake, where students relaxed and enjoyed the recreational atmosphere.
After this, the group travelled to the Statue of Unity, the world’s tallest statue dedicated to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
Students experienced the 135-metre Viewing Gallery Area (VGA) tour, which offered panoramic views and detailed information about the life and achievements of the Iron Man of India.
The Light and Sound Show in the evening beautifully showcased his vision and contributions, leaving a lasting impression on the students. The group stayed overnight in Vadodara.
5TH DECEMBER: DEPARTURE FROM VADODRA
On the final day, the group was safely dropped at Vadodara Railway Station, marking the successful conclusion of the tour.
Overall, the tour was well-organised, educational, and memorable. It provided students with meaningful exposure to India’s heritage, scientific progress, and national leadership, making it a truly enriching experience.
